THE WORKFLOW
How to compress a PDF toward a target size
- Open Target-size compression and choose the PDF. Enter your target in MB, such as 1 or 2.
- Set the maximum render scale and run Compress to target. Several passes may be needed for a large document.
- Compare the reported output with your actual limit. Download and inspect detailed pages before submitting the file.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLES
Choose the workflow for your document
Prepare a PDF for a 1 MB upload limit
Enter 1 MB and compare the exported byte size with the receiving service. The tool allows a small tolerance around its target; if a portal rejects the result, try a lower target and recheck readability.
Reduce a large scan while keeping useful detail
Inspect fine print, stamps and diagrams after each attempt. If the requested size makes them unreadable, extract only the required pages or ask whether the recipient can accept another delivery method.
BEFORE YOU SHARE
What to check in the result
The target is approximate. The search makes a limited number of attempts and retains a quality floor, so a long or complex PDF may remain larger than requested. Every page is rendered as an image, flattening selectable text, links, form fields and accessibility structure.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions about this PDF task
Is the requested size guaranteed?
No. The tool tries several settings and may stop above the target because of its quality floor or limited attempts.
Will the result keep selectable text?
No. Target-size compression turns pages into images. Use Repair / optimize PDF when retaining page structure is more important.
Why does an upload form still reject the PDF?
Check the actual output size and the form requirements. A service may use a different size calculation, require a smaller strict limit or impose other file restrictions.
