Add headers and footers to a PDF

Headers and footers can identify a report, show its version date or provide a consistent page reference. This tool places text in the left, center and right header or footer positions on the pages you choose.

THE WORKFLOW

How to add headers and footers to a PDF

  1. Open Headers & footers, choose a PDF and enter the page selection.
  2. Fill the required header or footer positions and set font size and margin. Use {page}, {pages}, {filename} or {date} where you need those values.
  3. Preview pages with both short and long text, apply the headers and footers and inspect the downloaded copy.

PRACTICAL EXAMPLES

Choose the workflow for your document

Add page X of Y to a PDF footer

Enter Page {page} of {pages} in the center footer field. Review the resulting labels after merging or rearranging pages so the visible count matches the final document.

Label PDF pages with a filename or date

Use {filename} or {date} in the position you want. A filename can be long, so choose a readable font size and confirm it does not collide with a center or right label.

BEFORE YOU SHARE

What to check in the result

The operation adds text; it does not replace a header already printed on the page. A long filename or title may overlap another position, especially on narrow pages. Leave unused fields empty and test the chosen margin against existing content.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about this PDF task

Can I put different text on the left and right?

Yes. The tool provides separate left, center and right fields for both headers and footers.

Will this remove an old header?

No. It adds new content. Inspect the PDF first and choose placement that does not overlap an existing header.

Can I limit headers to a page range?

Yes. Enter the required page positions before applying the operation.
