THE WORKFLOW
How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Open Page numbering and choose the PDF. Select top center or bottom center.
- Set the starting number, font size and optional prefix such as Page. Check that the chosen position has enough empty margin.
- Add page numbers, download and inspect the first and last pages to confirm the sequence.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLES
Choose the workflow for your document
Number a merged PDF continuously
Finish merging and arranging the source files before adding numbers. Inspect pages from each source because their original margins may differ and an added footer can overlap existing content.
Continue a page sequence from an earlier document
Set Start at to the next number in the larger sequence. This affects the new visible labels; it does not join the files or change any printed references already inside them.
BEFORE YOU SHARE
What to check in the result
This operation adds visible numbers to every page in the input, including a cover. It does not erase existing printed numbers or change references in the document text. Number after merging and reordering so the sequence matches the final arrangement.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions about this PDF task
Can I skip the cover with this operation?
The standalone numbering operation numbers every page. For a sequence that excludes the cover, separate that page first, number the body, then merge them in the desired order.
Can I add a prefix such as Page?
Yes. Enter the prefix and choose the starting number and font size in the controls.
How can I include page X of Y?
Use Headers & footers, which supports the {page} and {pages} placeholders for a custom label.
