THE WORKFLOW
How to edit or remove common PDF metadata
- Open Add / remove metadata and choose your PDF. Review the displayed title, author, subject and keywords.
- Select Remove existing metadata first if needed, then enter the fields you want in the output.
- Save metadata and inspect the downloaded document properties. Check the visible pages separately for details you also need to change.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLES
Choose the workflow for your document
Replace an outdated PDF author or title
Enter the correct common properties and save a new copy. Some readers display the internal title in their tab while others show the filename, so check both before distributing a document.
Remove common metadata before sharing
Use the clear option, save and inspect the output. Review the pages and any other document features independently; a metadata edit is only one part of checking what a recipient will receive.
BEFORE YOU SHARE
What to check in the result
This tool handles common document metadata fields. Do not treat it as a complete privacy scrub of embedded files, revision history, every metadata stream or visible text. Clearing an author property does not remove that name from the cover page or a signature.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions about this PDF task
Does removing metadata redact names on PDF pages?
No. Page content and document properties are separate. Use redaction for selected visible areas.
Will PDF metadata keywords increase website rankings?
Editing a downloaded PDF property is separate from optimizing a webpage. This tool changes document properties; it does not submit search keywords or change your website content.
Can I clear metadata from several PDFs?
Batch processing offers Remove metadata for several files. It clears common fields and exports separate PDFs in a ZIP.
