PDF TASK GUIDES

Find the right tool for your PDF

These 28 guides cover every operation in the PDF Toolkit. Choose a task for clear steps, practical examples, common questions and a direct link to the matching controls.

Organize pages

  • Merge PDF files

Combine two or more PDFs into one file without uploading them. Arrange the source files, preview the page order and download the merged PDF.

  • Split a PDF

Split one PDF into individual page files in your browser. For a selected page range, use the adjacent Extract pages operation instead.

  • Extract pages from a PDF

Save selected PDF pages as a new document. Choose a range or a custom selection, preview the result and extract locally in your browser.

  • Delete and reorder PDF pages

Put PDF pages in a new order or omit unwanted pages. Preview thumbnails and build a new document locally without uploading the file.

  • Rotate PDF pages

Fix sideways or upside-down PDF pages. Rotate the whole document or selected pages and save the result in your browser.

  • Crop or resize PDF pages

Crop PDF page margins or resize pages to A4, Letter or Legal. Set margins, fit content and check the result before downloading.

Convert and scan

  • Make a scanned PDF searchable

Use local OCR to recognize text in scanned PDF pages. Download a searchable PDF or text file and review recognition errors.

  • Convert JPG and PNG images to PDF

Combine JPG or PNG images into a PDF with one image per page. Arrange the images, set a page margin and convert locally in your browser.

  • Convert PDF pages to JPG or PNG

Export selected PDF pages as JPG or PNG images. Choose a render scale, check the preview and download the images without uploading the PDF.

  • Clean up a scanned PDF

Adjust scan contrast, brightness and color, set a deskew angle and optionally remove nearly blank pages. Review the rasterized output locally.

Edit and sign

  • Add a signature to a PDF

Place a visible signature on a PDF in your browser. Upload a signature image or draw one, preview its placement and save the signed copy.

  • Add text to a PDF

Type text onto selected PDF pages. Set font size, color, angle and position, preview the placement and save a copy locally.

  • Type on a PDF in your own handwriting

Create a handwriting font from an alphabet photo, review character crops and place typed text on PDF pages in your browser.

  • Draw a signature on a PDF

Draw a signature, set its ink and stroke width, then place it on selected PDF pages. Preview and save your document locally.

  • Add a text watermark to a PDF

Add a centered diagonal text watermark such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL. Choose PDF pages, text size and opacity and preview the result.

  • Add page numbers to a PDF

Number PDF pages at the top or bottom with a custom starting number, prefix and font size. Add pagination locally in your browser.

  • Fill PDF form fields

Complete detected AcroForm fields in a PDF locally. Review answers and choose whether to flatten completed fields before saving.

  • Highlight and annotate a PDF

Add PDF highlights, underlines, strikeouts, rectangles or visible text notes. Choose pages, placement, color and opacity in your browser.

  • Add headers and footers to a PDF

Add left, center or right PDF header and footer text. Use page, total-pages, filename and date placeholders and preview selected pages.

Privacy and protection

  • Redact a PDF

Redact selected PDF areas in your browser. Learn how the rasterized export works and check the saved document before sharing.

  • Edit or remove common PDF metadata

Review and change common PDF title, author, subject and keyword fields. Clear existing common metadata and inspect the saved document.

  • Password protect a PDF

Encrypt a PDF with a viewing password using local processing. Save a protected copy and test the password before sharing.

  • Remove a known PDF password

Unlock an encrypted PDF using its current password. Remove encryption locally and save a copy that can be opened without the password.

Optimize and inspect

  • Compress a PDF

Reduce a PDF file size in your browser, then compare the output. Learn when image compression helps and what happens to selectable text.

  • Compress a PDF toward a target size

Set an approximate PDF size limit in MB. The tool tries image quality and scale settings, then reports the result for you to check.

  • Repair and optimize a PDF

Rebuild supported PDF structure, recompress streams and optionally linearize for web viewing. Try local PDF optimization before image compression.

  • Process several PDFs in a batch

Optimize, clear common metadata, compress or number several PDFs in one local batch. Download the separate results together in a ZIP file.

  • Inspect PDF properties and page sizes

Read PDF page count, dimensions, version and common metadata locally. Check basic document properties before choosing an editing operation.

For reading and navigating an existing document, open the free PDF viewer. If you need to work with a Word document, use the DOCX viewer and editor.

Free PDF editor with signatures, handwriting and 28 tools

Use one private online PDF editor for 28 common jobs. Merge, split, reorder, crop, rotate, fill, redact, OCR, clean, compress and edit PDFs for free. Add a drawn or uploaded signature, type in your own handwriting, annotate pages or process several files without sending documents to a server.

Use PDF Processor for cumulative visual edits, page selection, existing text and image editing, and undo or redo before downloading. For signatures, choose Upload signature, Draw / sign, or create a handwriting font from a plain-paper alphabet photo. Signatures you explicitly save remain in browser storage until deleted or that storage is cleared. These tools place a visible signature image; they do not create a certificate-based digital signature.

How to add a signature to a PDF

  1. Open a PDF in PDF Processor and choose Upload signature or Draw / sign.
  2. Choose a signature image or draw your signature. Review the background removal and place the visible ink on the required page.
  3. Check its size and position, apply the signature and download the edited PDF. Use Save in browser only if you want to reuse the signature later.

This places a visible signature. It does not create a certificate-based digital signature, and changing a previously signed file may affect its existing signatures.

How to type on a PDF in your own handwriting

  1. Choose Type in my handwriting and photograph your handwritten alphabet on plain paper.
  2. Review the character crops and correct the letters before creating the handwriting font.
  3. Enter your text, choose the target pages, review placement and download the result.

Clear, evenly lit letters produce better character crops. Keep your original PDF so you can compare the result before sharing.

How to merge, split or reorder PDF pages

  1. Use Individual tools and choose Merge PDFs for several documents, or Split PDF for one file.
  2. For a custom selection, use Extract pages or Delete / reorder pages and review the requested page order.
  3. Preview the result, run the operation and download the new document.

Unlock an encrypted document with its current password before using operations that cannot read the encrypted input.

How to reduce a PDF file size

  1. Try Repair / optimize PDF first when you want to preserve page content.
  2. For image-based compression, choose PDF compression or Target-size compression and adjust the image settings.
  3. Compare readability and the resulting file size before downloading and sharing.

Image-based compression flattens pages: selectable text, links, forms and accessibility structure may be lost. A requested target size is an estimate, not a guarantee.

PDF Toolkit questions

Is the PDF editor really free and ad-free?

Yes. All 28 PDF tools are free to use without ads, an account, a subscription or a GOATiM watermark.

Can I add my signature or handwriting to a PDF?

Yes. Draw a signature, import a signature image, or photograph a handwritten alphabet to create a personal font and type with it on selected PDF pages.

Are my PDF files uploaded?

No. Your PDF and signature stay on your device while the browser performs the edit. The page may download the code and fonts needed to run a tool.

Does this create a certificate-based digital signature?

No. It adds a visible drawn or image-based signature. It does not issue or apply a cryptographic certificate-based digital signature.

How processing and privacy work

PDF processing runs on your device in this browser tab. The page may download scripts, fonts or processing engines to run a tool; these downloads are separate from uploading your PDF or signature.
